Ok here's the deal, I have no knowledge of any languages or web design but I am planning to teach myself it and create a popular Facebook application within one month of this bet.

It's going to be a tough challenge but I think I can do it and this bet is a means to push myself to get my arse into gear and produce something from what i've learned.

The application will be an online role playing game and feature various elements including the ability to purchase weapons and learn new skills. It will be made solely in PHP.

The conditions I need to meet for it to be popular are that it must have over 5,000 daily active users within a month of completion, so this bet will run for two months with the ability to bet until the end of the first month then await the results at the end of the second.

So wish me luck guys and any advice would be great, of course if it proves popular Bragster will be getting some free advertising ;)

I think, think being the important word here, that I can develop it in PHP as an external site and embed it within Facebook inside an iFrame whereby the website content is displayed within the apps page on Facebook. My limited understanding is that FBML, as used in the Bragster app can be used and is instrumental for features such as querying a friends list and displaying display pictures.

Either way i'm just gonna have a tinker and see what happens, hopefully it will bring Bragster plenty of members once it proves popular, and if I can get you guys on board I could set it up so that every member who joins Bragster through my app gets extra points within the game. It will be used to monetize my app with other partners but for Bragster it will be free, as I personally love all you guys :D

After the 30days are up I have to stop developing it and showcase it to ya all so progress can be monitered. Then there are another 30days for the number of active daily users to hopefully reach 5000. It would be silly to have published the bet giving me 30 days to develop and promote the app.

bragster settles it as failed and everyone gets there "money" back

ive tried something like this with my old account...
it said something like "bet expired all participants will receive there entrance fee" or something across that field.

Cheers for your support guys, glad to be an inspiration to you Bertrand, look forward to seeing what you create as well, because I WILL complete this, this bet is the drive to actually get this done, though with the new Facebook layout coming it may be difficult to get the app into peoples profiles and also Facebook are pushing for log-in as opposed to being able to 'add' the application. This will probably affect it's viral capabilities.

Well it's going ok so far, currently learning the basics such as querying the database and displaying the result, the only issue im having is with CSS, I know it's not explicitly needed while learning PHP but while creating and testing projects it helps to have it laid out as I would like.

Hopefully going to resolve the issue soon, gonna start a blog up so you guys can follow my progress if anyone is interested ;)

Aw thank you Cyan for showing an interest, it's the thought that counts :) great to have someone opposing me and giving feedback, pushes me to work harder and on target.

Cheers for the offer Adam, hopefully I wont experience too many issues with it. I sorted out the stylesheet issue, I typed sytlesheet as oppossed to stylesheet, was a bloody nuisance as tried EVERYTHING to sort the issue out and simply overlooked tht spelling error. Was quite frustrating.
