"Bravery?"

MikeRowave 97%
MikeRowave says:

We humans can be very brave, standing up for ourselves, going to war, running into burning buildings to save people. We can also be cowards, terrorized by spiders, afraid to ask someone out for fear of rejection, etc.
So what do you think? Are we mostly brave with moments of cowardice, or are we mostly timid and brave when we need to be? I'm talking about humanity in general.
Let's hear your comments and examples of your own bravery or fearfulness.

OK, here’s a story about me being brave...sorta. Back at university a bunch of us from the dorms went to the cafeteria for dinner and this one girl was with us named–believe it or not– Melody Waltz. She was ditzy but also gorgeous. She came back from getting food and mentioned to us that some guy had been really rude to her. I looked and he was huge! I was feeling sort of playful and told her I was gonna go tell him off! So I marched over to where he was and with my body language, it looked like I was talking to him even though I wasn’t and he probably didn’t even know I was there. I thought it was pretty funny. A little later, she came to me and told me that he’d actually come to her and apologized and I was her hero! OK, so I hadn’t done anything heroic at all then, but I really DID because I fessed up and told her the truth. (Did I mention she was gorgeous?) ;-)

    I'm a sheep. Baaaaaaaaa.

In all seriousness, I've never needed to be brave, but I suppose I would be if need be.

    Brave, here is my example:
When my children were small the oldest boy was a born runner and prankster. When he was 2 we lived near a semi-busy street and I was expecting his lil brother. Well my oldest boy got away from me in a split second and ran directly for the busy street, laughing all the way. (he knew I would run after him). Not only did I run after him, but I ran so fast I could have won an Olympic sprint competition. My legs were running faster than my ability to react and my foot landed in my daughters favorite digging hole. So here I am, expected mom, big as a house, running like my life depended on it landing in a hole. I had no time to think this through, knowing that I at the least was probably going to break my ankle bad, and possibly jeopardize my unborn child, I decided in that second to not trip even if it meant a broken ankle and I was going to protect both the born and unborn. It was one of the freakiest situations I have ever experienced.

I think that naturally we are sheep. We are mainly concerned about our own safety and how to get ourselves to tomorrow. We show bravery when we are willing to sacrifice ourselves (through death or injury) to help others. Both are natural to us, but we are mainly sheep.

    Baaaaa!
